Yes, This is a LOST Post

LOST Season 2 premierred last night. It was delayed by coverage of a JetBlue plane in LA that might have blown in to little peices upon landing. The landing was cool, but it pushed back the premiere of LOST by 20 minutes or so.

If you watched LOST last night, you probably weren’t dissappointed. It was a good episode. It raised a lot of questions. After watching LOST, I worked a graveyard shift and pondered the episode the entire time. I went to http://www.oceanicflight815.com/ and tried to figure out the barcode ‘code’.

After a few tries, I grabbed a flash dis-assembler, and cracked open the ribs of the site, and put in the correct code, which brought up a page of the script. Which brought up a pretty crazy spoiler for the series. Crazy man, crazy.

Lost and PCGameMods.com

So now I have Lost Season One on DVD. It’s awesome. I had recordings of the episodes, but the DVD version is just sooooo much better. The sophomore year of Lost is about to start, and from what I’ve read and heard, the stories become more mission based for the next season. This boils down to predictability, which may hurt the charm and allure of such a series. I hold my breath, as will Msrs Lindelhoff and Abrams.

As some of you are aware, I write a little tool that helps good people create animations for a video game. Why? I should say that I’ve learned a lot in the process, but the words of praise from my users who encourage these actions, and it’s overall fun.

I should also say, that it’s a lot better for my sanity than trying to make a video game ‘mod’, as many other people have succesfully done. Why? Because my target users are creators, and not the destructive type who like to rip on a mod’s gameplay suggestions, and rip on ideas, and people in general.

To date, my creation is in beta, and I have only released it to one site, ever. Yesterday, the site was taken down, and redirected to a site that asks the user to guess which movie a displayed screencap is from. People got mad and furious. People felt invested in the site.

Let’s backtrack. The site, PCGameMods.com, has an infestation of trolls. Lots of them. So many, that the site’s proprietor, a nice chap named Sergio, has decided that the site needs an upgrade. In the upgrade, as far as I understand, the new site will not feature a feedback mechanism, or forums. So he took it down (rather, redirected it to another site of his,) to facilitate his upgrade.

So his trolls, feeling that they have some sense of investment and ownership in this site, decide to innundate his mailbox with hate mail and spam – even deaththreats. You can see some examples on a placeholder page Sergio has put up.

While I don’t know about removing the forums and feedback, and at this point, I wouldn’t blame him if he doesn’t put anything up, it should serve as a grim reminder to you all what happens if you don’t ignore the trolls. What should be done? What can be done? As a website’s proprietor, you want visitors. But … what if your visitors are a bunch of jokers?

I Gotta Get Paid

but hey, that’s just the way it is –

So I got paid today. Every time I get monies in my hands I want to spend them on gadgets, trinkets and such.

Today my thoughts are on Lost, and how I want to buy the first season on DVD!

10 years ago – I had just moved to Utah from Colorado. It was scary going to a new school and stuff. My new school looked like a run-down, really old school. Oh, and I didn’t know anybody there. Oh, and I started as a Sophomore. Wow, that was a long time ago.

5 years ago – I’d been married for about a year, had a one year old.

1 year ago – Last year a lot of stuff happened, it was very complicated.

Yesterday – Woke up before dawn and took Piperoo to the Salt Lake City Cemetary and then to the airport. After that, I played (and won) a game of WarCraft III, found out that I don’t get paid til Tuesday, (bought coffee) and went to my mom’s house to work on Sukie’s desk. After sanding the desk down, Sukie, myself, and my mom went to Home Depot and bought some paints, and some lunch, which wasn’t so good. Then I picked up Jabba from school, and went back to my mom’s house. Painted the desk, which didn’t turn out that great. Then I went home, and was very tired at that point. I did warn Sukie that she wouldn’t like how it turned out. I rested on the couch until Sukie got home from work. Then we were off and running again, to Cracker Barrel and then to Fish 4 U, PetSmart, and theorb and antigone’s place. I was super tired! I’m pretty sure we got more coffee in there somewhere, too, but I was so tired and it didn’t wake me at all.

5 snacks I enjoy – Coffee, Tortilla Chips, Lemon Poundcake, My Mom’s Cookies, and Dry Roasted Peanuts.

5 songs I know all the words to – DeBussy’s Claire de Lune, Bach’s Air, um … most Beethoven symphonies (like … 9 has a choir,) AC/DC’s TNT, and the James Bond Theme.

5 things I would do with $100 million dollars – Buy luxury cars and have a crash up derby. Buy a bitchin’ house. Start my own company. Invest. Live.

5 places I would run away to – Hawaii, Japan, Amsterdam, Jamaica, Argentina.

5 things I would never wear – A Sailor Suit, tights, a Panda, a Boy-Band T-Shirt, or a shirt that says “I Suck.” Because I don’t.

5 favorite tv shows – Lost, The OC, Gray’s Anatomy, Desperate Housewives, Nature.

5 biggest joys – My son, making my wife happy, completing a project, writing code, appreciation.

5 favorite toys – Hmmmmm … not sure. Video Games.

5 people I tag – People. Chances are, if you’re reading this, you’ve already been tagged.

That time …

I’ve finished reading up through volume 28 of Berserk, which is made available thanks to the efforts of The Band of the Hawks. Volume 29 comes out next month.

I thought it would be pretty hard to read a mango, since … everything usually gets all mumbled and jumbled on a comic book page, and in mangas, it’s backwards to boot (start at the top left panel, read bubbles from left to right.) I really, really like Berserk, though. My favorite moment is long after the eclipse, when Berserk has his new companions and they come to a place where many armies are gathered to fight a war, and his companions start talking about the Band of the Hawk (since Guts is a quiet guy, they don’t know that he was the Hawks’ Raid Leader,) and the kid that is following Guts around asks, were you a mercenary once?

Guts says he doesn’t remember. And Caska, she’s been crazy the whole time these people have known her, and have no idea that she’s a bad-ass warrior, just like Guts.

There’s also a pretty bad-ass game for the PS2 that was never released in the US.

Bettas and Betas

Ah, Sukie’s fish (my favorite one, General) is getting better. It brings warm feelings to my heart.

On Friday I released a new version of an animation tool I’ve been writing, dubbed Dragon. I figured out how to add icons to GLFW-handled apps and did some other cool stuff, and wound up with what I thought was a really solid release candidate.

Since Dragon is in Open Beta, I released it upon the world, only to find out that there were some really stupid bugs in there. That’s why it’s in Beta – Beta means that it’s likely to have world-ending bugs in there.

I digress, I was not pleased with the bugs, so I squashed them all, even the women children. One of the things I am proud of is how well I have learned C++, which most people agree is the most powerful non-Assembly language. Ultimately, I’d be really happy writing C++ for a living (or so I think) because I really enjoy writing elegant solutions for complex problems.

Well, that post wasn’t really that interesting – but here’s something that is:

The old vampire from Underworld is the old rocker from Love Actually. I didn’t realize that when I watched Love Actually, but if you’ve seen it, and then see Underworld, you can’t help but laugh when the old vampire talks – it’s hilarious! I saw the director’s cut of Underworld, and I didn’t notice that they added too much (the movie did seem less blue to me – if the director didn’t add all the blue, who the heck did? This of course, could have been the screen, and not the film.)

Sukie’s Hobby

So I took some time to flesh out my blog-links on the sidebar there. I took the time to write up interesting descriptions of each link, so be sure to move your mouse over them for a few seconds (hehe, I said mouseover in my head. If you laughed, you’re a geek.)

So we’re at the fish store last night, because they were holding some Bettas for my wife, and they had two really cool looking ones. I thought the big one was cool, and the smaller one had a split-ish tail (betta officianados would say it isn’t a split tail, so I’m told.) Sukie wanted to get both, and despite a previously agreed upon price, she got them anyway. She totally said I could have her bitchin’ 17 inch LCD monitor (which has yet to be christened, as we’re awaiting delivery of Sukie’s PC,) but I opted to get coffee.

A hot coffee. Well, it was cold, really. But at least I’ll get those sweeeeet Google crawlers all up ons. So anyway, the last several posts have been rather bizarre, but well commented. Bravo!

iTunes wants in on the soothsaying

Sukie’s favorite! A lyric dump!

Take Me in Your Arms – Dean Martin

Once upon a lovely time
Many million dreams ago
Once there was a man in love dear
Many million dreams ago

Once he thought he had a sweetheart
Then he broke the golden rule
Never take your love for granted
Wise men often play the fool

Now he’d like to say I’m sorry
Can’t you see within his heart
Without you there’s no tomorrow
Why should true love have to part

Take me in your arms
I promise to be true
Never again I’ll stray
Away from you

Take me in your arms
I promise to be true
Never again I’ll stray
Away from you

Using Your iPod to Fortell World Events

So last night, I was on my way home from work and was listening to my iPod when I heard “It’s 5 O’Clock Somewhere” on my iPod. I put it on there, because it’s a catchy little tune and I have very eclectic tastes in music.

I didn’t use to like any country music, at all, but about a year and a half ago, Sukie put a country station on my car’s radio presets, and I showed her up and started listening to it. Ha!

Flash forward to last night (!) and I said, hey, I wonder what’s on that country station. Eventually my car got worked on and I didn’t put the preset back, so I have been country free for some time now. So, I tuned it in, and what song do you think was playing?

If you said “It’s 5 O’Clock Somewhere”, you get a cookie. Not a real one. Nevertheless, I was taken aback by this shocking coincidence, but somehow found a way to move on.

Or did I?

I’m all kinds of confusing right now.

Anyway, I’m trying to see how long I can go without an emotional outburst (for me, this means a tantrum.) So far I’ve been good since Sunday. I need to get to the gym, as working out is cathartic (theorb will tell me if I’m abusing the word) and seems to get out my bad energy.

I’ve pretty much gained back whatever I lost at the beginning of summer and my body is all out of whack. I’m still away from the HFCS, but one key part of my diet is missing – the 9 grain bagels from Einsteins. Those things are mana from heaven. Maybe not so tasty, but definitely doable as a breakfast meal that’ll keep you very full and strong through til lunch, or maybe just second breakfast.

Ah well, such is my life.
